Be careful who your friends are

Corinthians 15:33 (KJV)
33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Relationships are a powerful influence in a life. When a relationship is established you have been given access to the inner sanctums of a person’s heart to influence them. Because relationship is built on trust and trust opens the door of a person’s soul. They gain opportunity to steer your life in a particular direction. This is why Paul said that we should “not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers.” When a believer joins together with an unbeliever in an intimate relationship, they have given that person power to influence them. It’s one thing to have a work friend and/or acquaintances but these are relationships that we do not give access to our innermost being. There is a line drawn where a relationship crosses over into intimacy and now becomes a powerful force in our lives.

Relationships come into being because of sharing common interests. The only way an on fire Christian and a lukewarm Christian can have intimacy is if one compromises. They must meet on common ground. It has been said and it is true that you can tell what a person is by who their friends are.

Ask yourself this question today: “who am I giving access to my heart to influence me?” Be careful of who you are intimate with because they have more power in your life than what you think.

"The Voice Within" excerpt

This is an excerpt taken out of the new book "The Voice Within"
It will be published soon - at editing now. Do remember while reading this - it is the unedited version :)

We don’t just wake up one day and the marriage is over. We don’t just wake up one day and the kids are a mess. We don’t just wake up one day and we are in deep poverty. It started somewhere! The first time we sensed something wasn’t right; what was our response? Did we ignore it or did we confront it? Ignoring it softens the voice of conscience for the next time. Reacting to it will strengthen its voice for the next time. Spiritual sensitivity is vital for our survival! Satan’s strategy is to desensitize the spiritual senses with a bombardment of imagery that after awhile, it doesn’t affect you. After awhile of ignoring the Spirit’s quickening, self is desensitizing that area so no feeling any longer exists there. If a person ignores or overrides this inner witness continually, there will come a time in their life when the capability to hear God’s voice becomes nearly impossible. Loss of Godly influence and direction of life becomes lost and the person is then left to rely only on themselves as a source of guidance. Of course, this opens them up to the influences of ungodly spirits and a life of defeat and frustration will soon be the norm. Conversely, immediate obedience maintains the health of spiritual sensitivity and even permits deeper intimacy with the Holy Spirit to take place. Make no mistake about it, the health of our spiritual lives as well as our eternal destiny is dependent on the condition of our conscience.

Don't Fake It!!

This has been said and how true it is: Politics without principle; pleasure without conscience; wealth without work; knowledge without character; worship without sacrifice... all collaborate to destroy man. And yet, how many live without these principles and truths and adamantly believe they are right.
The bible repeatedly warns about self-deception. It’s hard to grasp that at first because when you think of deception you immediately think of one person deceiving another person. However, it is possible for a person to deceive themselves. Incorrect thinking, false doctrines, pride, sin, along with a whole host of other things can cloud the true perceptive and discerning abilities of an individual. The worst part of it all is that a person who is self-deceived is unaware of the condition they are in.
Satan is very good at impersonation as evidenced by the following Scripture.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (KJV)
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Concerning Cain, we get to know some hard facts by the following.
Genesis 4:3-5 (KJV)
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
Don't be fooled! Cain worshiped, built an altar, offered a sacrifice, had an appointed time to meet God, and still was rejected by God and eventually killed his own brother. Wow! Faking a true relationship w/ Jesus is no laughing matter!!! Think about it, Cain was having church but God was not excepting anything offered by it. I wonder how much this happens today.
Here is something that has always astounded me – why didn’t any the disciples suspect Judas?
John 13:21-30 (KJV)
21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
Interesting! Not one disciple suspected Judas. This man obviously went through the routine of outward appearances of religion and fooled everybody but one. Jesus knew it by the revelation provided by the Spirit. This is how important discernment is to the body of Christ. We need to know as Paul stated in the KJV of 1st Thess. 5:12 “…to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you…”
One parting thought: not everything that glitters is gold!

Titles or Function

Ephesians 4:11 (KJV)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
The five-fold ministry gifts are not titles but functions. I’m not a pastor because I have the title. I’m a pastor because I do the work of a pastor. A person is not a singer because of a title but because they sing.
Doing the work of the ministry will accomplish more than mere peddling of titles!
Notice what Paul said in the following:
 2 Corinthians 12:12 (KJV)
12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.
It is the same with the title of "Christian." My deeds will place the title of Christian over my life and not the other way around. There is no doubt that we can become imbalanced and over emphasize faith and no works. We can overemphasize works and no faith and each idea will lead to error. However, faith in Christ will produce works to substantiate our claims of a new life. I should not have to tell others I am a Christian - my works/deeds should leave no doubt who and what I am!

Works and deeds do not save us but they are the proof we are saved.

Conviction or Preference - What's the difference?

Difference between a conviction and a preference, according to the U.S. Supreme Court. A preference is a very strong belief, held with great strength. You can give your entire life in a full-time way to the service of the preference, and can also give your entire material wealth in the name of the belief. You can also energetically proselytize others to your preference. You can also want to teach this belief to your children, and the Supreme court may still rule that it is a preference. A preference is a strong belief, but a belief that you will change under the right circumstances. Circumstances such as: 1) peer pressure; if your beliefs are such that other people stand with you before you will stand, your beliefs are preferences, not convictions, 2) family pressure, 3) lawsuits, 4) jail, 5) threat of death; would you die for your beliefs? A conviction is a belief that you will not change. Why? A man believes that his God requires it of him. Preferences aren’t protected by the constitution. Convictions are. A conviction is not something that you discover, it is something that you purpose in your heart (cf. Daniel 1, 2-3). Convictions on the inside will always show up on the outside, in a person’s lifestyle. To violate a conviction would be a sin.
- David C. Gibbs, Jr. Christian Law Association, P.O. Box 30290, Cleveland, Ohio 44130

Amazing how the highest court of the land demands proof when it comes to what a person confesses. Certainly is no different with Christianity.

James 2:17 (KJV) Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Needing the Powerful Church

It does little good to wring our hands and lament the inroads of television, ball games, and other attractions on our church attendance. If we do not have enough vitality to compete with all this, maybe it doesn’t matter much whether we have our meetings or not. If the gospel means so little to us that it can be sidetracked by every sideshow that blows into town, it wouldn’t mean much if such people did gather to go through the hollow motions of a dead faith. It is certain that the answer does not lie in stubbornly holding on to the form when the power has departed. We seem to be preaching and promoting something while most of its adherents wouldn’t miss it much if they lost it! There is something frightfully wrong when we have to beg most of our crowd to come to church to hear about it. - V. Havner

We have paid a high price for a watered-down  Gospel. No demonstration of power in healing, gifts being manifested, anointed preaching and teaching, will ultimately lead to no converts but can increase membership. It's interesting how we have mastered entertainment in creating a carnal environment in the church to keep people there in body while never affecting them spiritually. I believe it is one of the greatest deceptions the church has ever seen since its birth. May we return to the founding principles contained in the Book of Acts on how to truly win souls. The spiritual methods that worked then will work today.

Letter to Mrs. Obama

Below is letter written to Michele Obama by Becky Smith.

Dear Michelle,
On the day that your husband was elected, you said that you had never been proud of the United States until that day. For the last three and a half years, I have been observing your husband and you, and I feel that it is time I share my thoughts with you. The day your husband was elected was the first time I was ever ashamed of this country, and today I am even more ashamed.
I was ashamed then because your husband was not elected because he was the best qualified to do the job, or because he was the most intelligent, or even because anyone really thought he could get anything worthwhile done. The reason your husband was elected, the only reason, is because of the color of his skin. Your husband was chosen by the Democratic Party to be their “token black”, and that is the shame of the American public. We deserve better than a community organizer who seems to look down on his fellow Americans while bowing to an Arab leader. We deserve a president who was thoroughly vetted by his party and the media, not someone whom the DNC now admits was never even eligible for the job. There are many other men, Black, Hispanic, of Asian descent, Native American, and even Caucasian who are many times more qualified and eligible to be the president. If he had even a shred of self respect, Barack would resign and convince Joe Biden to do so as well, so that someone with a backbone could fix the mess your husband (NOT George Bush) has made much worse.
Your husband said he would bring unity to the country; instead, he has brought class warfare and fanned the flames of racism by saying that his son would look like Travon Martin. When the Pharisees asked Jesus what the greatest commandment was, he replied, “‘you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’” “This is the greatest foremost commandment.” “The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”(Matt.22:37-40 NAS). Notice that there is no modifying clause in the second commandment “You shall love thy neighbor as yourself.” NOT “You shall love your neighbor as yourself, so long as his skin is the same color as yours or he does not make more money than you.” In our home, race is not an issue; everyone is welcome and treated respectfully. My mother raised me right; she taught me these verses and the golden rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I have lived this way all my life and never judge others; it is God’s job to judge, not mine. There is a big difference between loving the person and accepting the sin; I can love the person and still hate the things they do. The media was quick to condemn Sarah Palin’s daughter for getting pregnant (or was it because she chose to have the baby?), but at least she owned up and took responsibility for her actions, which is something your husband has said publicly he would not make his daughters do in that same situation. No, he would rather have them murder their baby should they be so shortsighted as to get pregnant before they were ready.
You are fond of quoting the Scripture in Luke that tells us that “To those to whom much has been given, from them much shall also be expected”, but then you take it out of context and tell us that means that the federal government has the right to take what one man earns and give it to the man who sits on his butt all day doing nothing. Sorry, but I do not think that is what Christ meant when he said “take care of the widows and orphans.” He also told us that God loves a cheerful (or willing) giver. He did not want to force us to do what we so willingly do out of love. In case you had not noticed, when there is a crisis (i.e. Katrina) the American people pull together to help each other faster and better than the government (i.e. FEMA) could.
The recent decision by the Supreme Court to uphold the individual mandate of the “Affordable” Care Act was equally shameful and has added one hundred-fold to the stress of my daily life. Stress that was not a part of my life until Barack took the office that by rights does not belong to him. My husband has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the treatments are expensive, and how long now before the committee decides that because he is not a “productive citizen” he cannot access the treatments he needs to stay alive? I clench my teeth at night wondering if he will be here when our daughter (now fifteen) walks down the aisle on her wedding day. When I had a heart attack last year, it was a Catholic-run hospital that picked up the greatest portion of the cost, allowing us to make payments on the rest when we could, not the government. Through the contraception mandate, Obamacare will shut down that hospital and hundreds like it, leaving people like me to fall between the cracks of your “perfect healthcare”.
I am also ashamed that the first family sees the Presidency as a lottery they won (how many vacations do you need in a year, really?) I have not had a job in two years, and our family would love to have a vacation in Europe, just one, someday. Yet your family has taken over seventeen vacations, at my last count, on the taxes people like me have paid. So, in effect, the middle class of America has been paying for you and your entourage of secretaries and secret service personnel to run around the world, shopping and sightseeing, when we cannot afford to go visit relatives who live in another state. Your husband’s policies have not created any jobs worth talking about, but they have kept businesses from creating jobs. Even a low-paying job would allow us the luxury of going to visit family.
So tell me Michelle, just what are you proud of? Are you proud of the fact that you are living in the White House because people did not want to be called racist? Or perhaps you are proud that your husband has chipped away at the civil liberties of the American taxpayers? Or perhaps you are proud of the race riots your husband instigated when he said that if he had a son he would look like Travon Martin, instead of keeping his mouth shut and letting the police handle the situation? The truth (whatever it is) will come out. I do not think there is anything that your husband has “accomplished” while in office that you should be proud of. Oh wait, I forgot all that golfing he has done that must have improved his game; I guess you can be proud of that.
In Christ Always,
Becky Smith
