Most Christians believe that
protection from accidents, destruction, satanic traps and assaults are
automatic for the Christian – that we do nothing to cause it – that it is based
on the sovereignty of God alone. In other words, when God wants to protect us
from these things, He does, when he chooses not, He simply allows them to
happen. This belief permeates the thought that if we are delivered from
anything or not depends solely upon God and not on us. People, for the most
part, believe that God is in control of everything that happens on earth. For
example: it was his/her or her time to die and God needed a flower in Heaven,
so he took them. We ignore such factors as they didn’t eat right, were going at
breakneck speed, made a wrong choice, and many other factors that may have
caused the premature passing of someone. I am not trying to be insensitive but
don’t we want to know the Truth?
- ALL promises of God are attached to conditions – governing principles.
- ALL of these conditions involve responsibility on our part.
The majority of
people are greatly offended if anything is taught that would imply any failure
could be due to their own fault.
- Why are we offended and opposed to teaching that says our unbelief kept us from receiving something when so often the Bible states that if we believe and doubt not we will receive. Matthew 17:20; Mark 9:23, 11:22-24; James 1:6-7
- Why are we offended when it is implied that our inability to persevere created lack when the Bible states the following: Hebrews 6:12 (KJV) That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
- Why are we confused or angry when it is suggested that our doing something caused failure when the Bible says: Isaiah 1:19 (KJV) If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land. 80% of all professing Christians do not pay their tithes, and yet they are offended when someone implies that their lack could be their own fault. According to Malachi they are cursed. God will not violate His Word to bless you when you are cursed.
- We hold onto bitterness and unforgiveness and then have the audacity to think God will answer our prayers. Mark 11:25-26 (KJV) And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. [26] But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
- We will eat poorly, won’t exercise, and abuse our bodies in other ways and then blame our sickness on God’s will.
- We won’t properly train our children, yet we become offended when it is suggested that their rebellion might have something to do with us. Prov. 22:6 & Deut. 6:7
- We don’t abide or remain in Christ and His Word. Still we blame it on God’s will when we ask and don’t receive ignoring John 15:7. According to Romans 10:17 faith comes through hearing and meditating upon the Word and we do very little of that; but let someone imply we didn’t receive a promise because of unbelief and we’re irate about it.
God gives grace to the humble. When we pridefully refuse to
confront our shortcomings, and then blame God for his will perpetrating
calamity on us, while we are the ones causing it with our disobedience is
simply appalling. Too often we distort the Word to accommodate our
disobedience. Oh the beauty of living without the chip of pride ruling from
life’s shoulder! The freedom the Holy Spirit expresses through the life in
place of pride’s imprisonment and suffocation, is not comparable.
