"Democracy... while it lasts is more bloody than
either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It
soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy
that did not commit suicide." - John Adams
I saw this quote and become troubled by this statement by one of our revered statesmen. Yet, after thinking about it, it is understood. Man has a tendency over time of deteriorating into irresponsibility. Once people taste "something for nothing" they will look to government as being the nanny of their lives. Politicians who have no term limits and have access to financial perks will speak anything to preserve their job. People will continually want more and more and the politician will speak anything to satisfy their selfishness so as to prolong their tenure. What keeps democracy in a prime workable condition is the morality of the citizens. A hard work ethic and morals that come forth from Christian values are what provide the parameters in ensuring a non-intrusive government.
Let's pray for our leaders and the people of America.
